Position: Preschool Special Education Teacher. This position will be located within the Eastern Local School District located in Meigs County, Ohio.
Salary: Per Established Teacher Salary Schedule. This is a nine month position with Board approved benefits.
Position Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Special Education
-
Appropriate current State of Ohio teaching certification/license
-
Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate
-
Must pass BCI and FBI background checks
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of academic area and teaching methodology including familiarity with Ohio Early Learning Development Standard (birth-five)
-
Ability to work effectively with others

Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing

Effective and active listening skills

Organizational and problem-solving skills

General computer skills
Essential Functions:
-
Ensure safety of all students
-
Teach and evaluate students using sound instructional practices
-
Manage classroom and individual student behavior effectively to maintain a safe environment
-
Prepare clear and timely lesson plans that meet required guidelines
-
Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required, including but not limited to staff and student files
-
Provide guidance and counsel to the students which will promote their welfare and their proper educational development
-
Attend and lead parent teacher conferences as conducted by the district
-
Prepare newsletters for parents
-
Provide complete lesson plans for substitute
-
Make provisions to be available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day
-
Assist the administration in implementing all procedures and rules governing student life and conduct, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure for the classroom, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
-
Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities
-
Maintain confidentiality with student files and information
-
Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete, and accurate explanations utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable to the level of learners
-
Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems
-
Take steps to refer a child for special education services when necessary
-
Serve as an active member of any special education team (ie. attend meetings, write relevant parts of the Evaluation Team Report and Individual Education Plan, and provide information/data for progress reports)

Interact in a positive manner with staff, students, and parents
-
Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, and conversations
-
Attend meetings and in-services as required by AMESC and the school district in order to maintain required hours for professional development
-
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents through effective communications and conferences
-
Observe ethics of teaching profession; exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment
-
Maintain record of student progress
-
Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
-
Notify parents and administration if any student is not meeting classroom goals or expectations
-
Maintain and improve professional competence
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
-
Interact with public in official capacity when required
-
Interact with Superintendent and/or Board of Education and present information as requested
-
Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
-
Respond to routine questions and requests in a timely, appropriate manner
-
Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships
-
Assist in the determination of appropriate curriculum, materials, supplies, and texts in cooperation with Pre-School Coordinator and/or building Principal
-
Attend professional growth seminars, workshops, and similar functions to keep current on relevant issues
-
Discipline students as necessary
-
Refer attendance, health, and psychological/emotional problems to Principal and Preschool Coordinator
-
Perform other duties as assigned
