MISSION: The mission of the Athens-Meigs Educational Service Center is to work in partnerships with the community to improve student achievement, build capacity, and raise expectations for all individuals in our service region.

All students in the AMESC service region will meet or exceed Ohio Standards.

All customers will receive high quality services.

The AMESC will operate cost-effective programs and deliver services in an efficient manner.
The Athens-Meigs Educational Service Center (ESC) plays an important role in enhancing learning for all members of our school communities.
Through community partnerships and collaboration with schools, the ESC strives to improve learning opportunities throughout the region. The seven elected members of the Governing Board and 200 staff members work to provide a variety of services to all school districts in Athens and Meigs Counties.
The Heart of the Valley Head Start and the Meigs County Adult Basic Literacy & Education (ABLE) Program also operate under the umbrella of the ESC.
Descriptions of the types of professional services and major programs offered will be helpful in understanding the role the ESC plays in our learning community:
~ ESC Teachers and Aides offer services for exceptional children.
~ Supervisors and Coordinators offer leadership in curricular supervision and professional development activities.
~ Speech and Language Pathologists help students improve their speaking, listening and overall language skills.
~ School Psychologists assess the academic and other intellectual abilities of students, as well as offer assistance with social, emotional, or academic problems.
~ Occupational and Physical Therapists provide therapy to children with physical disabilities.
~ Attendance Officers work with school districts and the juvenile court to improve school attendance.
~ Office Support Staff perform valuable services including: Criminal Background Checks; Work Permits; Teacher, Aide, and Bus Driver certficiation and licensure; Bus Driver physicals and random drug testing; and processing Home School applications.
~ Public preschool serves 3-5 year olds at six sites in Athens County.
~ Heart of the Valley Head Start operates preschool programs in four centers for 3-5 year olds in Gallia and Meigs Counties.
~ Meigs County Adult Basic & Literacy Education (ABLE) Program offers assistance to adults who wish to brush up on basic skills or work toward preparing for the official General Educational Development (GED) test.
~ Parent Mentor Program helps famliies become involved in their children's education, connects them to necessary resources, and provides a lending library of reference materials.
~ Work-Study Program offers students with an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) the opportunity to earn high school credit based on working. Students work in the school and in the community.
~ Meigs County Talented & Gifted (TAG) Program provides students opportunities and experiences to enhance and enrich their classroom experience.
The ability of the ESC to employ competent, qualified personnel who provide services and programs for local school districts results in high-quality, cost-effective services for children, families, and our schools.
